Becoming a member at First Lutheran Church is simple process designed to help you grow in your faith and get connected with the people and programs of First.
If you have been attending First as a visitor, we thank you for joining us. We would like to extend to you the invitation to become a fully committed member of our community. We have an excellent program set up to communicate our vision for this church so that you will be well prepared for your continued life in this community. The membership process looks like this:
1. FLC 101 The senior pastor shares the vision of the church with a Q&A session to follow. You will also get a chance to sit down to lunch with some members of First, get to know them, and hear about their experience here.
2. Membership Application At the FLC 101 class, you will be given the opportunity to fill out our membership application. Filling out this application allows you to sign on to the core values of First Lutheran and identify yourself as an agreeing member of the First Lutheran Church Community.
3. New Member Welcome The congregation will welcome new members on a Sunday soon after FLC 101. This is an opporunity for new members to publically affirm their desire to join the First Lutheran Church Community. We would love to celebrate you into our community on one of these future Sundays!
You may ask, “Why should I become a member? Can't I just show up on Sunday for church?”
While all are always welcome to show up on Sundays, becoming a member is a sign that you are committing to the ongoing life of this church. One part of our commitment to the Lord Jesus is a commitment to His people and His work on earth. It implies that you will support the congregation with your time, talent, and money. As a member you will also be asked/invited to vote on important items that will affect the direction of this congregation in the future.
We also strongly encourage people who are new to First Lutheran Church or new to Christianity to try out our Alpha course. This 10-week course is a practical introduction to the Christian faith and has been profoundly important in the lives of many people here at First Lutheran and around the world. Alpha meets weekly with meetings including a snack or full meal depending on time of day or evening, a large-group teaching, and small group time. Childcare is provided.
