Disiciples who are growing spiritually, practicing community and serving selflessly is what First Lutheran Church is all about.
We aim to be and make disciples of Jesus Christ through
1.) worship
2.) community groups
3.) service to others
What is a community group?
Sermon-based small groups make up the majority of our community groups. A small number of other community groups focus on a specific topic (men or women's study, First Place 4 Health, ALPHA)
A community group consists of 6-12 people who meet at church or in homes share, study the Bible, pray, serve and support one another .
How can I get into a community group?
Community Groups run in three seasons of six to eleven weeks. Signups are available at the beginning of each of these seasons. Also, our Community Group Coordinator, Linsey Petersen, can help you find the right gruop for you. Several groups are “stage in life” groups where you might share a common interest or lifestyle.
What do I need to bring each meeting?
First, listen to each week's sermon at worship or online via the podcast. Then, bring a community group study guide found in each week's bulletin, your Bible, and yourself!
When do groups meet?
There are groups meeting at church or in homes at various times throughout the week. Check them out on the Find A Group page .
What if I want to start my own community group?
We invite people to start a group with four to five other people (your friends!) Consider opening your home and/or starting a group by contacting Linsey Petersen at

I hear worship and service talked about along with community groups. What else is required of me?
Nothing else is “required” of you, but we consider the three values - worship, community groups and service - our three main components in building disciples.
We ask that you: come to worship on Sundays, get involved in a community group where you feel comfortable, and serve others! Since service is a built-in expectation of community groups, you'll get to serve along with people you know and value.
What do I gain from community groups?
We pray that people will find a group where real life happens. We all crave having a place to belong and connect. Community groups are a great way to “do life together,” to grow spiritually, experience community and serve selflessly!
