Unexpected World
Sunday, 18 January 2009
Series:  God Where You Least Expect Him Speaker:  Pastor Steve Turnbull
Passages:
  Luke 4:16-21

Description:
As a child, did you ever play in a “make believe” world? Perhaps a fairy tale world or a world of adventure? Or maybe a world where your favorite sports team always wins the championship! Most of us stop imagining such things as we get older. We leave these childish games behind, and we learn to focus on the real world under our noses. And the Bible isn’t completely alone in challenging even adults to imagine a different world. In today’s message we will remember and listen to some others who have tried to do the same thing. But finally, we’ll have to ask: is it all just make-believe? Or can a new world really come true?

Unexpected Savior

Do you ever need to be rescued? In today’s message we’ll hear a reading from the New Testament book of Romans alongside some very popular stories of rescue and “salvation:” the classic Cinderella story and the recent Hollywood Matrix trilogy. This combination of stories will help us understand the Bible’s teaching about our need for Jesus the Savior – and also the Bible’s teaching about what Jesus the Savior needs from us.
