Above the lights, throughout the sound,
beyond the screen, let His Word abound!
"Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in it’s various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ." ~ 1 Peter 4:10-11

How should one feel following each opportunity to serve His Church? Was it a joyful experience or was it "work"? Are they tired or energized? Experience has taught that the following directly contribute to the "Joy Factor" in service for the Worship Arts Ministry:
Heart. Literally interpreted as a "Servant's Heart". A heart that is focused on what is best for others rather than one's self. A heart that sets pride aside and yields to the call of the Holy Spirit.
Love. Love for Music, for others and for Christ. Love that drives towards excellence rather than perfection. To do one's best in every effort for the Love of His people who come to worship.
Desire. Desire towards education, towards learning and practicing a gifted skill. Audio engineers diligently strive to understand frequencies; placement of input to mix; proper balance of instrument to voice; appropriate volume to purpose; and dynamic scaling based on the environment. Video engineers push their talents weekly in building an exciting, clear and understandable media presentation for the congregation. Lighting engineers gain clear understanding of lighting plots, 3, 4 and 5 point lighting techiques as well as experience in the use of gels, gobos and spot lighting.
Humility. Come with a humble spirit, a teachable heart and a hungry mind. Don't engage expecting to know all the facets and designs. Each service is uniquely different and requires an "open" individual prepared to learn and share.
"Throughout the worship arts, we embrace His strength, wisdom and power to advance our skills as effective servants to His will. First Lutheran Church, it's leaders and volunteers focus on making the Word of God known to all. This ministry is blessed with leading edge technology towards pursuing our purpose - Loving Jesus, Loving People and Serving all with Joy. Prayerfully consider your role in realizing this goal."

Technical Director
For many years now, I have felt called to embark on a mission to restore the true heart of service within the worship arts ministry. Said another way, to reveal the "Heart of the Servant".
Born & raised in Minnesota, God got busy early granting gifts in music, administration and leadership. As a young boy, He enriched my life with many talents; vocal, trumpet, guitar and string & electric bass.
The Worship Arts Technical Ministry is focused on expanding the use of all the gifts God has given in Audio, Video, Graphics, Lighting and Camera. Although these cover only a portion of our worship ministry, I encourage and teach those involved towards His desire. I believe there is a calling to this ministry regardless of role, and I strive to manifest your gifts and His calling with you.
My vision is to build and empower a community of technical artists who are authentic, intentional and deliberate. Thriving to achieving a level of excellence in worship which only He can provide. I look forward to any opportunity to enable the free movement of the Holy Spirit in our worship offerings.
Assistant Technical Director
My name is Taylor Charboneau and I came to First Lutheran Church in 2004. I felt God calling me toward the Technical Ministry in the spring of 2005. I started volunteering in the technical ministry with the audio console and I was “hooked”! I started with helping with the technical aspects of our Alpha program and I decided to look into joining the contemporary worship technical team. Our Technical Director trained me professionally in six months and I have been on the Technical Team ever since.
I started off in audio were I mixed on Sunday morning, youth events, and preaty much anything elce that needed an audio person there. While still doing audio, I started to help make the presentations for the screens on Sunday mornings, while training staff at FLC how to use the Video System. After that I started to help with the lighting element of worship. I am now the Assistant Technical Director. I love what I do at FLC and am excited to see God work through myself and others!
I am 16 and a sophomore at White Bear Lake North Campus High School. When I graduate I hope to go into “Show Production”, and return to offer my services as Technical Director. My mom, Kari, is the Small Groups Minister here at First. She is in charge of Alpha and the Beth Moore Bible Study.
I have three younger siblings, two of which go to N.I. Magnuson Christian School on campus.
First Lutheran has been a blessing to our family in every way and we love it!
~ Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
