Getdown
Connect and grow with God on Monday nights at Getdown. Getdown is a wild combination super fun games, challenging issues, deep discussions, and time to hang with and friends. Everything gets started on Monday nights with an open game room at 6:30 and Getdown from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Youth Room. Friends are always welcome!
This summer we are planning to meet June 7, June 21, August 9, & August 30.
Summer Events
School is out and it’s time to put some excitement into summer! GetOut is a week of day camp for senior high students to hang out, serve, and enjoy some music. GetOut combines three days of area service projects along with fun outings and three days at Sonshine Music Festival. Service projects will be focused on First Lutheran’s local and international partnerships. Fun outings could include time at the beach, a ball game, or a water park. Sonshine Music Festival will feature the likes of Newboys, Family Force Five, The David Crowder Band, and Superchick. Don’t miss this great opportunity to grow in faith and have a blast with all of your friends.
GetOut Details:
- July 12-14, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. July 15 10:00 a.m. to July 17 (late)
- Cost: $225-Includes all activities, Sonshine ticket, transportation, and meals at
Sonshine (except supper)

- Dates: July 23-August 1(dates are tentative depending on the number of students and mode of transportation)
- Purpose: To grow in our relationship with Jesus, to serve others, and have a fun and safe experience that impacts us for a lifetime.
- Who’s going?: Anywhere from 20 to 50 senior high students and adult leaders. There is a limited amount of space on the trip so please make sure to get your deposit in ASAP.
- What are we doing on this trip?: For the tenth year in a row First Lutheran Church will be partnering with YouthWorks on a mission trip. This will be the first year the church goes to New Orleans, LA. The trip will be tons of fun and very meaningful too. Students will experience service work in YouthWork’s Kids club and in partnering with local ministries for the homeless, elderly, and children.
- Why New Orleans?: The hurricane season of 2005 was a devastating blow to the livelihood of every New Orleans resident. Census estimates indicate that New Orleans lost half its population between July 2005 and July 2006. An estimated 240,000 residents now live in the city. The poverty rate in New Orleans is 20.6 percent, almost twice the national rate. Bringing people back by rebuilding affordable housing and bringing businesses back to the city are essential to New Orleans’ restoration.
- Is New Orleans safe?: Students are taken well care of by the First Lutheran and YouthWorks staff. Students are always in large groups with at least one adult. Our time in New Orleans is spent with organizations that YouthWorks has been with for years.
- Parent Meetings: There are two required meetings for both the students and at least one parent/guardian to attend. The two meetings are on Wednesday, January 27 at 8:05 p.m. and Wednesday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Financial Details
- $425.00 Total cost per student after support from the church and missions committee.
Fundraisers provided by First Lutheran:
- $25.00 Cinnamon Rolls (set amount for every student that participates)
- $25.00 Car Wash (set amount for every student that participates
- $225.00 Stockholders (average amount made by students who participate in the fundraiser
- $50.00 Silent Auction (average amount made by students who participate in the fundraiser)
- $100.00 Average Total Cost for students who participate in all four fundraisers

Service Opportunities
Confirmation Junior Guide: Students looking to help lead a confirmation small group with an adult leader check this out. Give back to younger students who just love learning and getting to know older Christian students.
Confirmation Band: Help lead the Wednesday night Confirmation large group in sing-a-longs and worship. Training and practice are included.
Sunday School Teacher: Children love to have fun and learn about Jesus from leaders who care about them. Help lead our new 9:30 Sunday School this year!
Junior High Event Helper: Each month, the junior high ministry needs a posse of adults and students willing to help facilitate super fun outreach events.
